Media in Miami

Television is the primary source of news in Miami. However, the city has the second-largest market of television media after Tampa Bay in Florida. The Miami Herald dominates the print media market of Miami. El Nuevo Herald serves the Spanish language readers of the city. Both the newspapers were started in 2013 in Miami but now have headquarters at the former home of the U.S. Southern Command in the city of Doral.

Miami Today has its headquarters in Brickell, while Miami New Times is based in Midtown. History of Miami Newspapers

On May 15, 1896, Miami welcomed its first newspaper, The Miami Metropolis. The eight-page weekly newspaper started publishing daily in 1903. Ohio governor James M. Cox purchased the rights of the newspaper on June 4, 1923, and renamed it the Miami Daily News-Metropolis. The newspaper again changed its name to the Miami Daily News when it started publishing a Sunday edition on January 4, 1925. Currently, The Miami Herald is the most read newspaper in the city with a readership of more than a million people.
