The Indianapolis Star is a daily newspaper in Indiana primarily catering to residents of the capital city of Indianapolis. The paper was acquired by Gannet in 2000.

History

As said, the paper was established in 1903 and its first edition hit the newsstands the same year on June 6th. It was established by George F. McCulloch who was an industrialist as a competition to the other Indianapolis dailies, the Indianapolis Journal and the Indianapolis Sentinel.

The paper was quick to gain popularity and within three years after its inception, it acquired both the Indianapolis Journal and the Indianapolis Sentinel. Over the years, the paper underwent a series of mergers & acquisitions until Gannet acquired the paper in 2000.
